Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and one of the best known emirates of the UAE, United Arab Emirates. It is a gem for architects and hosts some of the most impressive buildings in the world. The Burj Dubai or Dubai Tower is going to be 818 meters tall and will be the number one tallest manmade skyscraper in the world. Another well known project is the world's islands creations in front of the coast and hotels such as Dubai Palm Island. You can also visit Jumeirah Mosque , try some skiing on some of its desert's slopes, splash with water in the Wild Wadi Water Park, smell its rich sheikh history in the Bur Dubai quarter or pay a visit to Saaed Al Maktoum House. Dubai is fast becoming a prominent place where all resorts and hotels of some status must have a building for their guests. Tourism is on the rise, luxury shopping centers pop up in no time and beach tourism is business as never before. Remember that Friday and Saturday are the busiest days for Muslims, so remember that things can get packed.
Some of the more spectacular dive sites, mostly ship wrecks, are located in the Arabian Gulf offshore the coast between Dubai and Ras El Khaimah. The Gulf's underwater landscape mainly consists out of sand, making the dive sites extra attractive for marine life. The visibilities of most inshore dive sites have been reduced a bit because of all the shore building activities and offshore creation of various islands, but there is still some great scuba diving to be done. Unfortunately, it gets harder and harder to find dive shops as most have moved to the east coast where pristine high visibility diving is still possible. Most leave from Hamria Creek Mouth, Sharjah Creek Mouth, Dubai Creek Mouth or Dosc Harbour. Another drawback is that most diving needs long boat rides and is suitable for advanced divers only. Dubai is a destination not known in the first place for diving but once you are there we highly recommended trying scuba diving some of the spectacular offshore wrecks.
