The MV Dara is one of the most historic wreck dives off the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. It was a 120m long, four deck high British cruise liner, originally built in 1948, England. She transported mail, cargo and passengers between Dubai, Muscat and Bombay. On April 8, 1961 the vessel struck a mine from some Omani rebels which resulted in a heavy fire and several explosions. In total it took 238 lives making it the second worst ship wrecking in the history of mankind, after the Titanic. The fires were extinguished after two days by the salvage vessel Ocean Salvor, but when they started towing the wreck, it sank premature at its current location.

The wreck lies on its starboard site in three sections with only the front and back end still recognizable. The stern can still be entered but because of the instability and strong currents we don't advise to penetrate the wreck. There are stories that human remains are still found from now and then so be prepared. The huge tides difference, its strong current and unpredictable visibility makes this diving in the Persian Gulf for advanced divers only.
